Becoming cobalt

Research project with Maïa Beyrouti

Nina Salsotto Cassina and Maïa Beyrouti have teamed up to collaborate on a research project around cobalt and its historical and contemporary contexts.
In September 2026, we took our first trip to the Italian alps to look at various sites of cobalt mining. Ultimately, we will produce work that explores the aesthetic, symbolic, historical and geopolitical dimensions of this mineral. We will be recording our journey, our findings, the locations, conversations and research we do along the way.
